Hurricane Tomas - St. Lucia
November 1, 2010

Following Hurricane Tomas’ visit to St. Lucia this weekend, I want to assure you that despite a bit of windblown landscaping - all is well at all three Sandals Resorts in the destination.  Our guests are safe, sound and enjoying the facilities and full services at the resorts which were never interrupted.

Preparedness is something you can count on at Sandals Resorts.  Generators at every resort ensured that loss of power was not a possibility and because our resorts make their own water supply, our guests were never inconvenienced.  Water is potable and plentiful at all three resorts in St. Lucia: Sandals Regency La Toc Golf Resort & Spa, Sandals Halcyon Beach and Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort.

We are in constant contact with the Ministry of Tourism in St. Lucia who report that all visitors are safe.  Initial reports indicate fallen trees, damaged roads restricting access to various areas, loss of power and Internet across the island.  Currently, the two airports (SLU and UVF) remain closed, but it is expected that they will re-open tomorrow.

Meanwhile, guests of our resorts unable to depart the hotels today will receive one night free. Likewise, guests who are unable to arrive due to the airport closure will receive a credit for the unused night.

Caribbean's Leading Hotel Brand
November 8, 2010

It gives me great pleasure to write this post; I am very proud to announce that Sandals Resorts has been named "Caribbean's Leading Hotel Brand" at the 2010 world travel awards for the 17th straight year!

This award doesn’t come as a surprise to me as we are recognized as the innovators in the “all inclusive world” because we continually upgrade the caliber of our resorts in order to exceed YOUR expectations; I can say without hesitation that there is no place like SANDALS!

Our unique and luxurious accommodations, endless choices in gourmet dining, premium brand drinks, beringer wines, exciting land and watersports, and the highest standards of service are what set us apart. In the words of our Chairman, Gordon “Butch” Stewart - “We’ve taken the best of the Caribbean, added the best of everything else and included it all”!

On behalf of our team of 10,000 employees, THANK YOU for making it Sandals and Beaches Resorts!

All the best,

 Gina

Living The Life - Butler Service
November 15, 2010

One of my favourite features of Sandals / Beaches Resorts is our butler service. Every time I stay in a butler suite category I feel I am living the life of the rich and famous.

Did you know that our butlers have been trained by the Guild of Professional English Butlers – the prestigious organization that trains the finest butlers and valets in the world. Our butlers provide a highly attentive yet unobtrusive service where every request is discreetly fulfilled. Upon arrival, your butler is handling every detail from tending to your wardrobe to making all dinner, spa and activity reservations and serving you beachside and poolside with your favourite beverages.

When you want the ultimate pampering experience the butler experience will exceed all your expectations. After all, giving you far more than you ever dreamed of is something you will only experience at Sandals!

Cheers,

Gina

Lush & Tropical Saint Lucia
November 16, 2010

Post Written By: Robin Wight, WPICC

Certified Wedding Coordinator

As a Sandals Certified Specialist, I love learning about what each resort has to offer! The beauty shown in the brochures does not compare to the experience you have as a Sandals guest.  I recently travelled to the lush, tropical island of St. Lucia with my husband and in-laws to experience Sandals Grande St. Lucian ourselves.  Learning that over half of St. Lucia is covered by rainforest and there is a drive-in volcano on the island, we were intrigued and excited to pick one of the three beautiful Sandals resorts on the island.  Although it was a tough choice, we chose the Grande St. Lucian for the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Suite.  This two bedroom suite offered us the unique experience of shared space to relax with my in-laws as well as the privacy we all sometimes need.

Sandals certainly lives up to their motto of Luxury Included Vacations!  From the moment we stepped off the plane we felt like royalty. A luxurious white Escalade pulled up at the airport to transport us to the resort.  Kim, our driver, entertained us on the journey sharing the island's rich history with us and stopping along the way for photo ops.  Arriving at the resort we were met by Clynns, one of the two butlers who would be taking care of us during our stay.  Within minutes we were in our suite, sipping champagne and pinching ourselves at the beauty of it all!  Clynns had already made reservations for us each evening at the resort’s various restaurants, booked our complimentary photo shoot and stocked our suite with our preferred beverages.  We were a bit hesitant of booking a butler suite at first, seeing as we're not accustomed to such service.  But Clynns and Giselle, our second butler, showed us such hospitality and warmth that we can’t imagine experiencing it in the future any other way.

The Grande St. Lucian is located at the tip of the island, meaning every morning we would wake up in our 4 poster King size beds with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and eat our breakfast on our second balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea.  Steps from the Grande St. Lucian is historic Fort Rodney National Park, where we spent a wonderful morning.  Hiking through the ruins and enjoying breathtaking views was the perfect way to start the day, though most mornings were spent on the gorgeous, silky, white sand beach at The Grande, relaxing on beach chairs reserved for us by Giselle or Clynns.

We were really impressed by the selection and variety of food at each resort.  That was the biggest decision we had each day!  Did we feel like burgers on the beach, Mexican buffet, wood-fired pizzas or an Italian feast?  Our absolute favorites were Gordon's, located at the end of the pier, the perfect place for fine dining while watching the sun set and Kimono's at Sandals Regency La Toc.  Kimono's not only offered delicious Japanese cuisine but also thorough entertainment!  Here the chefs cook and carry on with the guests over the teppanyaki grill.

Our butlers definitely were the extra special touch to our trip. Escorting us each evening to one of the restaurants where our table would be decorated with flowers and making tee times at Sandals Regency La Toc was just the start. Coming back to our rooms scattered with fresh flowers, sweet treats and bubble baths drawn made us feel like absolute royalty.  A lot more than just Luxury was included in this amazing vacation!

Gordon "Butch" Stewart Inspired By Oprah
November 28, 2010

Post Written By:

Jennifer Borgh

Wedding Planner - Jennifer Borgh Events

Did you watch Oprah last week?  Back to back episodes of her favourite things.  They are the most coveted tickets every year and for her final season she did it twice!  Giveaways for all of her audience members including cars, cruises, 3D TVs, and too much free loot for one person to carry.  The audience screamed, the audience cried and the audience was left with this feeling that they were the lucky ones and that anything is possible in this moment.  I was so happy for each and every one of her audience members, although part of me wishes that I could have been included.  Little did I know, Oprah’s show would inspire others to do the same.

Last week I was invited to my first Sandals Resorts appreciation night.  Ironically, when my invitation arrived, I was doing site tours of Sandals and Beaches resorts in Bahamas and Jamaica.  When I returned, I was upset to find out that the tickets were gone and I couldn’t go.  Luckily, I have a good friend who offered me her extra ticket.

First a local Toronto Wedding Planner, I have only been doing destination weddings and travel for 10 months.   I have already made a lot of contacts so it was nice to run into my Air Canada Vacations representative, my amazing Jamaica representative as well as a few other friends in the industry.

We ate a lovely dinner and listened to many thank you’s from the Sandals executives.  We were lucky enough to be privy to the drawings of the new Sandals and Beaches resorts (set to open in 2011).  The excitement level shot through the roof just thinking about the amazing new Sandals resorts that I am going to be able to wow my brides and honeymooners with.

Gordon “Butch” Stewart (Owner of Sandals) came from Jamaica for a personal thank you and inspirational talk about his LOVE for travel agents.  He got a standing ovation when he went up and the crowd cheered.  He spoke of cheap vacations and how disappointing they can be for both travel agents and travellers.  He spoke of online discount websites that he won’t sell his product to because of importance of travel agents in the world of exceptional travel.  He spoke of Sandals high standards and really giving value for money.  He again spoke of cheap vacations that don’t have everything you need included and the fact that your $599 vacation can have another $1500 in extras and still not hold a candle to Sandals resorts.  He had the room filled with excitement and started giving away trips to butler category rooms and executive class seats (provided by Air Canada) to some travel agents.  He randomly chooses travel agents to come up on stage to talk about their experiences with Sandals resorts.  Draws were held for more free stays and flights from Air Canada and WestJet and 10 travel agents (including me!) got a free one night stay at Sandals Antigua.

He finished his talk by saying that every one of his travel agents would be getting an early Christmas gift from him and that every single person in the room could have a one week stay at any Sandals resort (based on availability).  I screamed because I felt like I was on my own custom made favourite things show because my favourite things are Sandals Resorts and Beaches Resorts :)
